Rio de Janeiro, an exciting but densely populated city; Brasilia world heritage site; beautiful natural landscapes; and did we mention, the Amazon? Brazil is the fifth largest country occupying almost half the South American continent and bordering every country on it except Chile and Ecuador!

Even if you’re not into nature, don’t miss the Amazon. This mind-blowing area is home to an estimated 15,000 species of creatures. There are still hundreds of unclassified mammals in the forest. There are 1,800 species of butterflies and more than 200 species of mosquitoes and not to forget, piranha! Next stop? Bustling Rio de Janeiro. This cicade maravilhosa (marvellous city) thrives on dance, drink, beach, sport and sun. So you can’t help but party here!

Brazilians adore eating out so there are loads of eateries and restaurants open till one or two in the morning! Try their national dish, feijoada, a black-bean stew that originated |from African slaves who used leftovers to make a tasty meal. ?The beans are spiced with garlic, onions and bay leaves, and left to stew for hours with a hodgepodge of meats. Eaten with rice, farofo (manioc flour), slices of orange, and stir-fried cabbage, it’s quite a hefty meal. For budget accommodation, Hilton Belem and Hotel Regente are ideal. For those who can afford it, pamper yourself at Luxurious Hotel at Sao Paulo.
