How to buy a second-hand car?

Search far and wide. Flip through auto magazines and newspaper classifieds for a better idea of what you’re looking for. You can make a search based on your budget, specific make of car or model. You can also ask your mechanic on cars for sale.

Check it out. Test-drive the car to see whether it runs well and look for any physical defects to ensure it’s accident-and defect-free. To really make sure, get your mechanic to do a professional check-up.

Take a look at the service record. You will be able to see first-hand whether the car has been well-maintained and regularly serviced.

Don’t let the seller force you into buying. If you’re not happy with the deal, move on. You’ll surely find something else you like!

Alternatively, buy a car at an auction. However, you won’t be able to do a test drive as the cars are sold on an “as seen” basis.
