Elbows skin conditions

My elbows have a small patch of black discoloration. I’m quite fair-skinned so it can be easily spotted from a few metres away. People have came up to me asking what that black patch is. Some even think I burnt my elbow recently! As you can seen, it can be really embarrassing and it’s hard for me to wear a short-sleeved top without feeling self-conscious. I’ve tried applying whitening lotion religiously but it’s been ineffective so far. Any advice?

answer:
The dark patch sounds like an area of hyperkeratosis or increased thickness around the area. Occasionally, infection may make it worse. Usually, areas that are frequently traumatised, like your elbows, knees and thighs, are common sites for such skin condition. Lightening lotions will not work, in this case. You will probably need moisturisers and mild steroids.
