Summer Garden
Believe it or not, some plants love Houston in August. The intense heat, high humidity and usual lack of rainfall all contribute to an environment in which certain plants grow and perform admirably.
Of these heat-loving plants, I have chosen two because of their unique flexibility. Both will grow well inside as well as outside, and they will thrive in containers or in mass landscape plantings.
Instant Houses
In design, you’re not limited to a rectangular house, either. Modules can be put together in a variety of ways, making interesting floor plans. They can be clustered around a connecting deck so that sleeping quarters are separate from cooking and living areas.
Your Greenhouse
August can turn your greenhouse into an oven unless you are aware of a taw precautionary measures which will ensure the vigor of your favorite plants. One solution is to remove any heat-sensitive plants from the greenhouse and locate them in your home or the coolest spot in your landscape. Also check the ventilation of your greenhouse. The more air circulation that you can provide, the better off .our plants will be. Most home greenhouses are not equipped for cooling purposes, so open any doors and vents and if you have any removable portions of your greenhouse, take them off. If you do have a cooling system, be sure it is operating at peak efficiency.
Effective colorscape
One of the most clear and beautiful sights in your garden is usually the least understood — the colors you use. It’s almost impossible to think about a garden without thinking in terms of color, and yet, most gardeners treat the subject very casually.
